The GR®30, the 9 stages of the Gr30, a 198 km loop

 

The GR®30 is a long-distance hiking trail which offers a unique experience crossing the Chaîne des Puys, the Monts Dore and the Cezalier, varied landscapes with forests. Volcanoes and lakes. This trail covers a loop of nine stages, each offering its share of discoveries and challenges for hiking enthusiasts.


GR30 - From La Bourboule to Orcival


The first stage of the GR30 begins in La Bourboule and ends in Orcival. Hikers can immerse themselves in the beauty of mountainous landscapes such as Puy Gros, Plateau de Guery or Puy de l'Ouire, discover Lac de Guery and Lac de Servieres, lush vegetation and enjoy the fresh air pure magnificent panoramas of the Massif du Sancy, the Massif Adventif and the Chaîne des Puys.

 

GR30 - From Orcival to Aydat


The GR30 from Orcival to Aydat constitutes the second stage of the route, offering a unique panorama of the Chaîne des Puys: Puy de Dôme, Puy de Côme, the volcanoes of Auvergne. The GR30 evolves on the Plateau des Monts Dôme, a transition from volcanoes to more hilly and wooded areas to reach the magnificent Lac d’Aydat.

 

GR30 - from Lac d’Aydat to Saint Nectaire


The third stage of the GR30 takes hikers from Aydat to Saint Nectaire. This part of the trail offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, the Massif des Monts Dore, and allows walkers to discover the rich history and culture of the region before arriving in Saint Nectaire, a mecca of French cheese-making tradition.

 

GR30 - From Saint Nectaire to Besse


Continuing towards Besse during the fourth stage, hikers can admire the magnificent view of the town of Saint Nectaire, the charming village of Murol and its castle, Lake Chambon and the magnificent landscapes of the Massif du Sancy before reaching the medieval town of Besse

 

GR30 - From Besse to Brion


The fifth stage of the GR30 takes walkers from Besse to Brion, offering breathtaking panoramas of the peaks of the Chaudefour Valley and the Super Besse Ski Resort and unique opportunities to observe the local fauna and flora. On the route, a stop at Lake Pavin and Puy de Montchal is essential. Then towards Brion, the magnificent Lac de Montcynere.

 

GR30 - From Brion to Eglisneuve d’Entraigue


The GR30 From Brion to Eglisneuve d'Entraigue marks the sixth stage towards the Cezallier plateau, inviting hikers to explore picturesque trails, the Godivelle lakes and enjoy the tranquility of nature. In Eglisneuve d’Entraigue, the magnificent Eglisneuve d’Entraigue waterfall awaits you.

 

GR30 - Eglisneuve d’Entraigue to Saint Genès Champespe


The seventh stage of the trail goes from Eglisneuve d’Entraigue to Saint Genès Champespe, offering walkers a total immersion in the wild and preserved nature of Cezallier. The GR30 runs through the south of the Puy de Dôme department, running along the Cantal with a view of the Monts du Cantal.

 

GR30 - from Saint Genès Champespe to Chareire


By continuing towards Chareire during the eighth stage, hikers can appreciate the diversity of the landscapes of the Massif du Sancy where the Puy de Sancy, the Puy Ferrand and the richness of the local fauna emerge. Lake Chauvet will be revealed at the end of the course.

 

GR30 - from Chareire to Bourboule


Finally, the ninth and final stage of the GR30 brings hikers back to La Bourboule, thus completing the loop of the GR30 long-distance hiking trail. This final stage ends in style with the ascent of Puy de Sancy and its 360-degree panorama of the Monts Dore, the Monts du Cantal and the Chaîne des Puys. This Gr30 finale offers an opportunity to reflect on the entire journey traveled, as well as the memories and unforgettable experiences shared along the way.
