GR®30: Discovery of the enchanting landscapes between Saint Nectaire and the medieval city of Besse

The GR®30 trail offers walkers a unique experience through spectacular landscapes and unsuspected natural treasures. After having covered stage 3 of the GR®30, which leads from Lac d'Aydat to Saint Nectaire via the Menhir de Cournols and the Gorges de la Monne, a river taking its source in the foothills of Puy de Monne at the Col de the Croix Morand, the Puy d'Olloix, hikers begin a fascinating new adventure. stage 4 of the GR®30, a distance of 25 km, from Saint Nectaire to Besse.
GR®30 - from Saint Nectaire to Lac Chambon
Stage 4 of the GR®30 begins in Saint Nectaire, where the majestic Romanesque Basilica dominates the valley, offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding area. Continuing towards Murol, the fortified castle of Murol stands proudly in the heart of the landscape, testifying to the medieval history of the region. The hike continues to the Dent des Marais, offering an exceptional panorama of the Puy de Tartaret, Lake Chambon and the Monts Dore, before reaching the peaceful banks of Lake Chambon, offering a breathtaking view of the Massif du Sancy.
GR®30 - From Lac Chambon to Besse
From there, the GR®30 takes you around Lake Chambon, then you start the climb towards Courbanges through the Foret domaniale. In Courbanges, head towards Besse with the majestic peaks of the Chaudefour Valley as a backdrop, before entering the charming medieval town of Besse. Nestled in the heart of Sancy, Besse welcomes you with its picturesque streets and its warm atmosphere where it is good to recharge your batteries after a day of hiking.
GR®30 - Stage 5 - from Besse to Brion
The next stage, section 5 of the GR®30, takes you from Besse to Brion, through varied and captivating landscapes. You will have the opportunity to discover the majestic Lake Pavin, a true natural jewel nestled in the heart of the landscape, as well as the peaceful Lake Montcynère, before reaching the charming town of Brion, in the heart of Cezallier.
By covering the GR®30 stage between Saint Nectaire and Besse, walkers will have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the beauty and diversity of the landscapes of the Monts Dores, the Massif du Sancy and the Chaudefour Valley, all by discovering the history and rich heritage of the medieval city of Besse.
