The Massif du Sancy at the origin of the Dordogne river

The Dordogne Valley is one of the most picturesque regions of France. It has its source on the slopes of Puy de Sancy, a volcanic massif which rises proudly in the center of France. The valley is formed by several streams, which descend from the surrounding peaks such as Puy Ferrand, Puy de Crebasses, Roc de Cuzeau or Puy de Cliergue to join and form the Dordogne river, which then crosses Mont Dore and Bourboule.

The Sources of the Dordogne

The rivers that join to form the Dordogne are the Dore stream, which has its source in the Sancy massif, as well as the Val d'enfer, Dogne and Val de Courre streams, which descend also slopes of the Sancy massif. These rivers meander through the glacial valleys and meet at the foot of the massif to form the beautiful Dordogne.
